First walk in the new boots
Two miles, brand new walking boots, and a reminder that training is meant to stretch me a bit.

Yesterday, on 14 May 2026, I did my first proper training walk for Trek26 Norfolk Coast in my brand new walking boots.
I walked two miles, and honestly, I found it quite hard. It was a good kind of hard though: the sort that tells me there is work to do, but also that I have started properly now.
Halfway through I got a second wind, which made a real difference. Once I settled into the walk, the boots felt like part of the plan rather than just new kit I was trying to break in.
My new hiking bag and hydration system are on the way, so the next job is to try them out at the weekend. Training is going well, and this first walk feels like a small but important step towards the 13 miles in August.
